Diversity Information

Below outlines OSRMP's strategy with regards to the diversity of our role models, along with diversity statistics.

How OSRMP Defines Diversity

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I), is a central focus of OSRMP. However, we also understand that it has become a controversial topic in recent years. OSRMP wants to promote DE&I in STEM fields, but we know not everyone will be open to this. Part of the controversy surrounding DE&I is that some view it as a "zero-sum" game, where one group benefits at the expense of another. We do not believe that this is the case and that innovation is a collective effort that requires the efforts of people from all backgrounds, including people considered to be the status quo (aka white men). Furthermore, we believe that diversity involves more factors that just gender and race. Aside from those two factors, OSRMP also considers the following factors:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • LGBTQ+

  • Religion

  • Ethnicity/Nationality

  • Education Level

The Balance Concept

At OSRMP, the last thing we want to do is cause controversy, because even though diversity is important, in the end, we are a fact-based, non-partisan source of information raising awareness about little known figures in STEM. For this reason, we incorporate a middle-ground approach, a concept of Balance. Under this concept, half of our figures are female and half our figures are from minorities. Through this concept, we want to show that innovation as a whole is a collaborative effort involving people from all backgrounds and not just by one person or one group of people.
